Overview
Flinkwerk is a customizable Cloud Native Computing System.
Cloud native application developers and platform engineers create, assemble, build, run, sell, share and buy any cloud software or resource in Flinkwerk - for example cloud-native applications, DevOps tools, Kubernetes clusters and cloud storage. No expert knowledge is required to operate your cloud business in Flinkwerk. You can keep using your favourite tools and portable containers.
Flinkwerk abstracts away the complexity of using multiple software and resources in cloud-native computing and simplifies their integration by automating the development, deployment and distribution of cloud solutions, while fostering best practices such as DRY and reusability on application, platform and business level.
Flinkwerk has been built for all types of software organizations, such as Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), digital agencies, freelancers, Dev Shops, system integrators, in-house IT teams and others.
Using Flinkwerk
You define a Flinkwerk project by adding a YAML configuration file to the root of your code repository. This configuration typically includes the definition of software dependencies, deployment clusters, per-branch environments, custom domains, and more.
To simplify cloud-native software development, Flinkwerk enables you to inherit other cloud applications in your project. This frees you from writing Dockerfiles, Kubernetes manifests or Helm charts and you can instead focus on your code.
To automatically build and deploy your project, execute Flinkwerk CLI commands in your local terminal or in your CI/CD tool. Every project Git branch automatically receives a dedicated live URL upon deployment that everyone on your team can visit.
What does "Flinkwerk" mean?
Flinkwerk is a combination of two German words:
- "Flink" translates to "fast" or "nimble".
- "Werk" means "factory".
Hence, Flinkwerk means "the factory that speeds up your work".
